604 nye

Image
Honored to be asked to play at the 604 Paramore New Year's Eve party, I made the long journey to Topeka for a good night with good friends.  I warned AC that I had not played in a long time, and had a time-stamped record collection.  He was amused, and intrigued when I played Pink Floyd, followed directly with Tracy Chapman, and a bunch of other random down-tempo tracks. Bucho picked up where I left off eventually, jokingly expressing my establishment of a new standard for the Living Room sets for the evening, creating an interesting but difficult musical trend to follow.  Everyone seemed to dig it though.  The other Sonic Engineers that night (Clandestine, Simply Chris, and AC) spun much more grand and fantastic vinyl tales, under black light and space art, using sometimes with computers and other gadgetry. view more photos from this event

submission dec.02

Image
We returned to the Submission fetish show again this month for the troupe's special X-mas performance by Inferno de L'Impur. There was a bit of fire play by Veronica the Fire Vixen and general debauchery in holiday gear, with gifts all around.  view more photos from this event ... NSFW ...

kabal basement grand re-opening

Image
Kabal Restaurant & Nightclub had recently opened, and while I was visiting one evening, asked if I would be interested photographing the re-opening of their basement.  They were considering doing it themselves, but had seen my work with the site, and thought it would be a good feature. The owners of Kabal are a really great group of guys intent on creating a world class nightclub in Kansas City for electronic dance music, bringing in some of the finest talent in the industry.  Their good friends Astro & Glyde played this evening for a spread-the-word sort of event that filled the place, with local support from Paul DeMatteo. If the club realizes its ambitions, it will be filling a huge vacuum in Kansas City...   view more photos from this event

liquid buzz live with rick west

Image
Local radio DJ CVaughn opened up for Rick West at The Hurricane, at a show presented by Liquid Buzz Live.   The latter was only a blip of the night.  Sometime around 5 am, I woke in my car shivering from the cold.  After a couple of drinks, I became incapacitated, and vaguely remember going to outside to get some air, then getting in the car. I also recall the doorman being nice enough to advise me to move to the passenger seat for my own safety.  The cocktail was apparently a bit more than it seemed, but that is another story for another day. It has never happened before, and the way I felt, I hope it never happens again.Moments of coherency were enjoyable. view more photos from this event

bella morte

Image
A unique performance by gothic band that formed in 1996. Bella Morte, meaning "beautiful death" in Italian incorporates elements of metal, death metal, alternative and synthpop. Gopal Metro is on bass guitar, but beyond that I do not recall the other players. view more photos from this event

604 paramore sessions

Image
Dropped in for a little chill session in the catacombs of the Yeti.  It was a really good night of conversation, black lights, and some really good chill tunes from the Topeka crew, better known as 666 ZipCode Town Rekkids. view more photos from this event

phukbed house party

Image
A bit of an invite only fund-raising event for local promoters PhukBed Entertainment. We didn't stay very long, but it was good time, and the population swelled to capacity, and then some. view more photos from this event
