osborn diesel power plus

Thousands of well-groomed horses lay quietly basking in the sun under the clear blue skies, waiting for recognition of their efforts at primping and preening, as well as resting up for the chance to thunder down the nearby asphalt track.  The title for the best in looks and fasted in the stretch were up for grabs Saturday afternoon, just an hour north of Kansas City, in the small community of Osborn, at the Horsepower Festival Spring. Most were dressed in their very finest for this event, while others cared little for the spotlight of show, hoping only to blow the doors off their competition.  All were there in honor of the founder of this little eighth mile outlaw track developed by local land owner Mike Franks.  Diesel Power Motorsports, the coordinators behind this event, sprinkled in a good does of food trucks and vendors to ensure stable hands and their accompaniment remained hydrated, well-fed, and amused at an affordable rate.  Even the ...

cleburne county ozark trail festival 2016

Image
It was a pleasant surprise to find the Ozark Trail festival downtown today.  When we last looked to see what was going on in the area, nothing came up. We must have just missed this.  While much smaller than the annual Springfest, it filled a few hours of our Saturday afternoon nicely on a perfect fall afternoon in North Central Arkansas. We got a late start after dealing with a few chores around the house, and did not make it down until about 1 pm.  We headed straight for the car show, since it was to end at 2 pm.  There were not a huge amount of cars, but some of the old standbys were there, as well as few I had never seen before. After getting our fill of perfect paint jobs and glistening chrome, we made our way back down to Spring Park to see what there was to see there.  The arts and crafts were slim and surprisingly in this election year, no political booths to be found anywhere! Maybe we just missed it, but the closest thing we discovere...

springfest 2016

Image
While roaming the hills of Arkansas, we stopped in on the 29th Annual Springfest in Heber Springs. It had been a few years since visiting this event, and thought might spend a couple of hours wandering the park seeing what there was to see. It could not have been a more perfect day for the event too. Clear skies, a light wind and temperatures in the mid-20s C brought everyone out. Folks everywhere were strutting with their Corn Dog, kettle corn, or waiting in line for Buffalo Bill's Ole Fashion Soda Pop.  Kids enjoyed the Butterfly Pavilion, Pony rides, and the skateboard park converted into an inflatable city. Meanwhile, adults enjoyed arts and crafts from the area, or a few music and performance acts at the old stone 1933 Women's Club Band Shell Pavilion. Other associated events were going on in different parts of town too. The airport was hosting Class Car Show, Air Fly-In & Color Fun Run. Heber Springs Elementary put on a show at the...

Stopped in for a visit with the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club at their regular meetup. There were not too many super-vintage bikes; mostly ten to twenty years old. view more photos from this event

5 acre concert & car show

Stumbled on this event on the way home one afternoon, and dropped in for a look around. I did not stay for the concert, but did snag quite a few photos of the awesome array of hot rods parked around the field. view more photos from this event

20th vintage motorcycle rally

Image
The Vintage Motorcycle Rally landed in Kansas City with a variety of old and new bikes, spanning nearly 100 years. With nearly every style, shape, and level of horsepower represented, there were very few average every-day ordinary bikes.  Hosted at the Airline History Museum, and it rained pretty heavy the night before, but they were kind enough to pull the old Connie's out and provide some protection for the inventory, in case the storms fired up again. view more photos from this event
